Please see the reports below for any updates on current discipline. Discipline carries over in some cases season to season, so ensure you are aware if your player has games remaining to serve. Please notify the Discipline committee once the games have been served on a week to week basis so we may update the report.

Yellow and Red Card Accumulation Information

Discipline and Notification of Suspensions: All suspensions will be posted on the VISL website.

It is the Team Officials’ responsibility to check the website for any disciplinary postings and Yellow and Red Cards before the start of any game and to ensure their players are notified of their suspensions.

Contact the VISL Executive Director for information at least forty eight (48) hours before the next scheduled match if any discrepancies or errors have been posted. Contact the Executive Director, before your match, if your team plans to sit a player who may have additional cards not reflected on the website.

A) If a player receives two (2) official cautions in one match and consequently is expelled the cautions shall NOT become part of the caution accumulation. The two cautions automatically constitute an expulsion. If however, after receiving a caution, the player is subsequently expelled for any offence, punishable by expulsion, the first caution shall become part of the record.

B) A player who accumulates three (3) official cautions (yellow cards) within a period of one playing season shall be automatically suspended without hearing and without appeal from the player’s following game within the competition in which the cautions were earned.

C) A player who accumulates five (5) official cautions (yellow cards) within the period of one playing season shall be assessed a one (1) game suspension which must be served in the following game within the competition in which the cautions were earned.

D) A player who accumulates six (6) official cautions (yellow cards) within the period of one playing season shall be assessed a two (2) game suspension which must be served in the following games within the competition in which the cautions were earned.

E) A player who accumulates seven (7) official cautions (yellow cards) within the period of one playing season may be required to appear before a Discipline Committee and shall be assessed a five (5) game suspension which must be served in the in the following games within the competition in which the cautions were earned.

F) A player who accumulates eight (8) or more official cautions (yellow cards) within the period of one playing season will be required to appear before a Discipline Committee. For discipline concerning Cup play see Discipline and VISL Cup Play below.

Players and Team Officials, while under suspension, must not have any contact with their team before or during the game at the field of play.

A suspended player or suspended staff will be allowed to attend his team’s games as a spectator providing he is well clear of the team bench and technical area.

PLEASE NOTE

When a red card is reported by a referee, the ejected player will show up in the Discipline list with a temporary default of a "tbd" game suspension, tbd fine and fine status of "to be determined".

All new red card suspensions will undergo Discipline by Review and 1 of two things will then take place;

A suggested suspension will be posted.
The suspended individual will be asked to attend a Discipline by Committee meeting.

If needing to attend is the case, the place holder to indicate such will remain at tbd. Those figures will be adjusted after the member attends the hearing which takes place as needed.

After a suggested suspension is posted (via discipline by review), the suspended individual has 48 hours to decide if they accept the sanctioning (minimum per red card is 1 game). If they do not accept the sanction, they are entitled to attend a discipline meeting to have their case heard.

At this time the suggested discipline by review suspension offer comes off the table and the Discipline committee will assess the suspension at the Discipline meeting. Should you desire a discipline meeting, please send notification to the Executive Director and you will be given further Zoom information (meeting can also be by email or by phone or you can waive your right to attend).If you do not send in notice of attending to the Executive Director, you will not be able to have a hearing.

The discipline meeting will be with members of the VISL Board and/or other community members.

After the Discipline Hearings, (whether it be by review or by committee) the suspension will be updated to the actual number of games.

The fine and the fine status will be updated to "owing" until paid. Fines are the standard $20.00 per game assessed.

Individuals are not permitted to participate until their fine status is updated to "paid" and after all games have been served. Individuals will be notified as to the extent of their suspension and if it is from all soccer related activity or strictly game play. (Specific game play will be determined by the Committee Chair and it could be from League, Cup, or Provincial competition - or a combination of competitions)

**Please note that if a player participates and their fine has not been paid - the fine will automatically double every game they are deemed to have participated and the individuals original suspension will be doubled in length.

If your name is not scratched off the team list, you will be deemed to have participated.

Players who receive a second caution in a game and are ejected will generally receive a one game suspension but this is not always the case.

In some cases, a longer suspension may be applied, especially if the player does not calmly leave the field of play once ejected or cause further disruption. (PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE)

If you receive two cautions in a game and are ejected and your suspension is updated to 1 or 2 games, you do not need to attend a Discipline Hearing.

If you receive two cautions in a game and are ejected and your suspension remains as "tbd", then you will be required to attend a Discipline Hearing.

Payments can be made online with credit card via your team page, via etransfer to payments@visl.org or at the Discipline meeting.

Be sure in the notes of your payment to indicate that it is a fine payment and who it is for.

Players are welcome to email executive.director@visl.org to:

notify the league that they can not appear
provide written input/video in the case where they are unable to appear
inquire about the appealing process

All suspensions on the website will be updated by the Tuesday following the game played.

All suspensions from last year, that were a result of yellow card accumulation of 3rd/5th/6th yellow, will NOT carry forward to the upcoming season. All RED card suspensions will still carry forward as per usual.
